What is the difference between dental mouthguards and of the shelf boil and bite mouthguards?
The custom fitted mouthguard is available from your dentist. This mouthguard is constructed directly from a mould taken of your teeth in the dental surgery and fits tightly and comfortably over your teeth. This type of mouthguard is the type recommended by the dental profession and is the most effective in preventing injuries to the teeth and jaws.
The “do it yourself” mouthguard, available at many pharmacies are usually poorly fitting and uncomfortable to wear. Dentists do not recommend these as they offer little protection to the teeth and jaws.
Does Dental Armour Custom Mouthguards provide a warranty?
Yes! A one year warranty is offered on all manufacturing faults.
To improve the longevity of your mouthguard, it is important not to chew on your mouthguard as this can distort the shape. Always keep it in the rigid case provided when you are not wearing it and keep it out of direct sunlight.
Regular cleaning will help increase the useable life of your Mouthguard.
How long will my mouthguard last?
This varies according to many factors, but normally a growing child would require a new mouthguard once a year. Although the teeth and bones may be growing, the mouthguards are flexible, and can accommodate some movement. Older children and adults may not grow, but the mouthguard will wear down with use and should be checked annually.
What do I do if my child has missing or loose teeth?
No problem. Our technicians always check the impressions and models for teeth which are yet to erupt and ‘block out’ the models, i.e. create extra space for the new teeth to erupt.
How do I clean my mouthguard?
Cleaning your mouthguard is simple. After use just rinse with cold water.
I've decided to go ahead with the Dental Armour do-it-yourself home impression kit. What if I take a bad impression?
If you follow the simple step-by-step instructions, you should find the self-impression system is very easy if the instructions are followed. Your impressions are always checked by one of our technicians and in the unlikely case of receiving an unsatisfactory impression, we will send you another kit free of charge.
